Next step after installation

Hello all,

Thank you to everyone who posts in here. It's enabled me to get my new shiny box of joy up and running, with the latest builds of both XBMC and Boxee.

Now... the next step.

I go into XBMC, videos, and I can't seem to add anything. No matter how I try and browse to my macbook pro, I can't get XBMC to go there. I have put in the IP address of both the router and my MBP, under just about any of the choices I could, but to no avail. I have a wireless network setup.

Noob question I know. I have searched, googled, and looked through forums one by one, but still can't find the answer of how to get my media files to be seen by XBMC.

Thank you for all constructive help given on this. Nod

Kind regards,

Peter Mc

add the source path, then browse to it, you are trying to browse while in the add source dialog.

Ok, done that, thanks Smile

It now comes up with unable to connect. Do I need to setup network sharing on my MBP first?

davilla Wrote:yep.

I turned on file sharing (under system preferences/sharing) and turned on read only for 'everyone'.

I go back into XBMC (have also done a reboot on it), go into Video, add source, type in the IP address of my laptop, hit OK at the bottom, and it comes up with "Unable to Connect. Could not retrieve directory information. This could be due to the network not being connected"

I'm also getting a lot of "Error 2: Share not available" errors.

Damn and double damn.

Ah yes well, there was that. I went back in and I had the wrong type of sharing on Blush

Problem fixed by turning on SMB sharing, making an account of share/share in there, and all good. It does take an awfully long time to load a 350mb .avi file though!

Thanks so much for your help!!!

What exactly are you having issues with? Adding the source? Getting a Mac to share files over SMB?
