I have a Mac that doesn't have a built in IR port. Does anyone know if there are USB IR receivers that work with XBMC on the Mac?
Specifically I'd like to be able to access the full suite of commands not just the Apple Remote ones (meaning more than directions plus select and back).
For example, I've seen the Manta TR1 and several USB Window Media Center adapters mentioned but does anyone know if they work with Max XBMC?
If it matters, I'm using Lion 10.7.2 and the XBMC Eden Beta 1.
Thanks!

It shouldn't really matter what kind of Mac it is... just the Mac OS/XBMC software versions...
I have a Mac Pro and a Hackintosh; neither has an IR receiver. MacBook Airs also don't have them including the newest models. |

I'd recommend Flirc for IR remotes. It lets you use ANY remote you want, is seen on the computer as a standard USB keyboard, and via keyboard.xml is fully configurable in XBMC (or just map buttons to the existing default keyboard keys).

Flirc is great but at the moment MCE remotes aren't supported as well as they could be - a work in progress.
These have been the only problem remotes highlighted so far due to i/r frequency differences (for more info: http://forum.flirc.tv/index.php?/topic/1...-an-issue/ or http://forum.flirc.tv/index.php?/topic/9...st__p__514) So if you're not using a MCE remote - get FLIRC! Awesome! Anymore questions on FLIRC, feel free to head over to flirc forums! Flirc now has a forum: forum.flirc.tv |

FLIRC looks pretty neat. Thanks for the suggestion.
I already own a Manta TR1 and a USB Windows Media Center IR receiver (along with a Harmony remote that I can program as needed) so I was hoping to find a way for those to work with the Mac without having to buy anything extra, but if I buy something I'll definitely get the FLIRC. So does anyone know how to get a Manta TR1 and a USB Windows Media Center IR receiver to work with XBMC on Mac? Or should I bite the bullet and get the FLIRC? |

(2012-04-15 17:10)tekno Wrote: See this post That's a pretty good idea. Most of that kind of hardware simply uses the USB bus, so buying replacement parts for an actual mac, but interfacing it with a standard USB plug, should work just fine for a hackintosh. I'll have to remember this for the future. You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Add-on:YouTube]] = Add-on:YouTube, [[Adding videos to the library]] = Adding videos to the library, [[userdata]] = userdata, etc |
