Newb first build?
#1
I'm new to xbmc and these forums and just wanted to make sure everything looks good before I pull the trigger on this. I've read the stickies and this is what I came up with based on eskro's recommend builds.
CPU+iGPU AMD A8-3850+HD6550 $130
MOBO ASRock A75M-ITX FM1 CIR USB3.0 SATAIII UEFI mITX $90
CASE+PSU Apex MI-008 250W mITX $39
FAN Scythe SY1225SL12L 120mm 800RPM 40.17CFM 10.70dBA $14
HDD Patriot Torqx 2 PT232GS25SSDR 2.5" 32GB SATA II $45 after rebate
RAM G.Skill 4gb (2x2GB) Ddr3 1600 $30
$348 + tax
Planning to run Win7 64bit
Can I add a 2tb wd green to this case?
What about a bluray writer ?
I don't have budget for a nas yet and would like to use this for BD rips as well if possible.
Thanks for any advice.

Can you recommend a cooler? Would I be better sticking with the a6-3600 or the a6-3670k?

looks great to me!
you've done your homework Tongue

well, the PSU has only 1 SATA Power Connector...
so, since u need to plug 3 sata devices (ssd, bluray, hdd)
you'll need to use one of the 3 MOLEX power connectors the PSU has,
and transform it into 2 sata power connectors...

oh yeah and, for your bluray burner,
a SATA Cable might not be included in the box...

What about thermal paste and anti static wrist strap?

Thermal paste included in the package should be fine, because I never use any other thermal paste other than what is included in the package.

I thought that you might need more than 800rpm to keep the very tight compartment in a small case cool. Since you will install a lot of components in it, this high volume air flow with very low dBA might be great for your case- SilenX IXP-74-14G 120mm Green LED Case Fan.

I have the same case! Smile

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Regarding the anti-static wrist strap, as long as you do your build in a room without carpets, and ground yourself (by plugging in the PSU, and touching part of the case), you should be fine.

Just remember to unplug your PSU before assembling the parts.

the Scythe SY1225SL12L is fine if u choose to buy it.
your CPU comes already ready to be installed. no additional paste needed.
just ground yourself by touching anything metal before working on your HTPC

Ordered APU AMD | A6-3500 2.4G 3M FM1, Kingston hyper x $23.99 MEM 2Gx2|KST KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX, SSD 32G|PATRIOT PT232GS25SSDR from newegg. Gonna order everything else tomorrow but I'm second guessing my self on the mi-008 case. After reading reviews of people having to place the hdd in the 5.25 bay. Size of the case isn't a huge concern I have a dedicated media room where all the av equipment is located . I'm concerned because ill be using the ssd, 2tb green and the pioneer BD player.

lol, no concerns there at all...

just use its external 3.5" bay and stick your HDD in it...

as for your SSD, no worries, there so small
u can stick them anywhere using double-sided tape Tongue
