[WINDOWS]tuner card?
#1
i know nothing about tuner cards, i read the mediaportal support list, however, i don't know what cards are DVB-C/S/T/etc

all i want to do is use an OTA HD antenna to pick up local channels. i don't need PVR options. just want to watch the stations every now and then.

i can get an hauppage wintv-hvr-150 for about $20, but, i think that's analog, and i don't think that would work with an OTA HDTV antenna without a converter box.

i can get the 1250 for about $40

so what would be a decent, cheap tuner card to accomplish what i want?

If you have a digital antenna, you're gonna need DVB-T which stands for Terrestrial. Most tech shops provide a filter function on their website which allows you to select only DVB-T cards. If not, you can generally determine the connection type by the card name. For example, I have a Technotrend T-1500 for my terrestrial TV, and a Technotrend C-1501 for my cable TV.

Also, do keep in mind that in order to watch pay TV, you will need a CI interface. Technotrend supplies those on seperate boards, but you should always look this up. Best is to Google your TV provider, the card name and the TV backend you're going to use and see if you can find something about compatibility across the three of them.
