Best commercial product using XBMC
#1
Hello,
I would like to get a multimedia center that can read native (potentially protected) bluray discs, without having to rip them. As I understand, this is not possible on free/open platforms for licensing reasons.

So, what would be the best commercial product (as open and upgradable as possible) using XMBC to do that?

Thanks.

there are none. best you can do is use an external player.

That's what I was afraid of Sad
When you say "external player", you mean an external bluray player box plugged to my TV, or a piece of software hooked to XBMC, such as MakeMKV?

Piece of software like AnyDVD-HD or MakeMKV, the VLC guys are working on libbluray and making progress but it's slow going, they are planning on getting menus working but even then you would still likely have to use some dedicated decryption tool as the AACS-LA is constantly throwing out new updates to the Blu-ray DRM and most of the free tools just cant keep up or have the resources to look into it.

You would think the film industry would want to make it easy to play blurays, rather than making it slightly harder to download them.
