"Standard" remote mappings
#1
Hi,

I have been pondering this question for quite a while now, but since I am building a second HTPC now it is very important again:

The problem is this: I use a Philips Prestigo Universal Remote and an IR receiver (used to be a Soundgraph iMon, now is a flirc)

This all works very well, the only "problem" I am having:

Is there a more or less standard way which remote buttons are used in XBMC and what they are used for? As I understand it XBMC understands all commands from an MCE remote, which is the one I would emulate using the universal remote. All I need would be an overview which buttons would do what if I bought an MCE.

flirc does have an XBMC preset which lacks a lot of the functionality needed though I think (context menus etc), I would use the full keyboard mode to program XBMC functionality...all I am searching for is a "standard" way of mapping the buttons to the functions. Wink

I would then proceed to rename the virtual MCE buttons according to their XBMC functions but that is another step...

See http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi..._with_XBMC

In Linux the standard method of using remotes is LIRC.

Windows has no standard interface for remotes, so they are usually configured to generate key presses. There is a sort of standard set of key presses documented in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...-shortcuts. XBMC has mappings for all these keypresses.

Yup the FLIRC preset only has a select amount, advanced users are recommended to use the full keyboard using the list of keyboard shortcuts:

Also, currently, MCE isn't well supported on FLIRC, for more info read this thread:

It is planned to change though

Though you have a universal remote so hopefully you could reprogram if you had any probs.

Any more questions about FLIRC please feel free to post a new thread in the FLIRC forums.

Flirc now has a forum: forum.flirc.tv
