Need suggestions for replacing my HTPC
#1
Hello all,

I believe my Foxconn 330NT fought the good fight for 2+ years and is doomed to exhaustion. Ultimately, the twerp is overheating beyond repair (ie... I really want to spend money on something new and cool). My budget is 500-700USD.

I believe I'm a group 6/7. I want to stream HD stuff from whatever source I throw at it (HD MKVs and eventually Bluray RIPs). I don't really care about 3D as it gives me a headache for now.

Also, I'd like to be able to rip DVDs via handbrake while watching an HD movie via XBMC and recording TV via Windows Media Center (at least till XBMC 12). All my media streams from a NAS and TV is from a Silicon Dust HD Homerun Dual.

There is also a Wife Acceptance Factor involved as I'd like the smallest form factor possible that looks cool.

I've been taking a hard look at AMD 3870k but haven't found the right case. I'm willing to spend more for the perfect case.

does anyone have any suggestions on my requirements, CPUs & Cases.

Thanks for reading!Big Grin

This build appears to be in the vicinity of what you are looking for: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=114890. I am thinking about doing the build posted in the previous link.

I would suggest looking as eskro's htpc build guide, he has about 20 or so different suggestions on cases:

Personally, I like the case that Eskro used in his HTPC:

I am roughly in the same boat as you, in terms of needs/wants and usage pattern. I have been reading the various threads, just can't make up my mind on which build.
