[SUPPORT] Hulu Video Plugin
Sadly, none of the solutions listed here for launching Hulu from XBMC will work if you have an XBMC-only distribution with no desktop (like OpenElec), and in addition, even if you can install and run it on your XBMC box, it doesn't work within XBMC, so no adding Hulu shows to your library, no scrobbling to Trakt, etc.

So for me, until another intrepid hacker creates a new, functioning Hulu plugin for XBMC, I'm just using Hulu from my Blu-Ray player and ignoring my XBMC box altogether.

Option 4 - PlayOn
Option 5 - Various addons not allowed to be discussed here.

LOL !!!

Well, they are dropping support, they say. The API for the desktop app has remained amazingly consistent over the past 2-3 years, not changing at all with the various site updates.

Yeah, that's a caveat with the Hulu Desktop "solution". Especially the OpenELEC part. I have OpenELEC on my families AppleTV upstairs and for now they just can't use Hulu on it... When it was with the stock AppleTV OS (a stripped down OS X Tiger) it wasn't even possible to launch Hulu Desktop because the system requirements for it where too high for the hardware in that box.

Also, youtube isn't working so well either. But they have a Smart TV and can access those two things there. XBMC is used by us for things other than streaming internet videos though we have network attached storage devices with libraries of SD and HD movies and shows and still have a use for XBMC even without streaming internet video.

As for me on my desktop computer at least I can manage and access my Hulu "favorites"\subscriptions from Hulu Desktop and it continues to work for quite some time now. As I noted before though I don't launch it from XBMC rather I launch it from Mira as an independent app as there's no need to launch Hulu Desktop from XBMC with launchers like that.

That seems to require working plugins to interface with on XBMC. It works.. but what it does it it sends a command to the respective plugins in XBMC so it has to have working plugins for the intended services. In other words it doesn't help for Hulu. It's really just a remote control plugin. In fact in the instructions it says:

For Hulu, you'll need a plugin from a third party repository, check out this link for more info: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=121023

Option 1 - Install Chrome Launcher from https://github.com/AddonScriptorDE/repos...master.zip

Then add http://download.hulu.com/huludesktop.swf as a URL.

Advantages - Quick and Easy setup in XBMC, no additional downloads required
Drawbacks - You will have to press Enter twice and the site always starts with movie trailers. You have to login every time to bring up your own Hulu profile.

Option 2 - Install Advanced Launcher from https://github.com/Angelscry/plugin.prog...master.zip

Newbies here. So frankly speaking, the Hulu plug-in doesn't work any more? Recently it showed up darwin-level 3 video options for me to choose from but none of them work.

No longer working. Its a shame. This is the addon that was most dependable after Netflix and Amazon went to crap (and had to be launched in a browser). I will be cancelling my hulu subscription because of the changes.

If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have even have had Hulu for as long as we did. Thanks for your hard work, it was certainly appreciated by many, myself included. I was holding out, hoping Hulu would eventually be working again. But if you're out, then I am giving up on it entirely and canceling my Hulu Plus subscription. In the past few months, I have found myself relying less and less on Hulu anyway, so it's kind of unnecessary now with the other solutions available. Thanks again for everything, moneymaker.

It's really a shame. Hope someone else will take over and support this plug-in.

The best hope now is that something can be created to run hulu in the background, in a browser, that will work as a backend. There is a lot of work being done to get playon (basically a browser) working better. I am using it now for hulu, Netflix, etc. The biggest Issue with that now is controls, quality is getting much better. maybee some of that work could transition over. Addonscriptorde had been working on his browser for xbmc, but went with chrome launcher. That might be some help. If the powers that be put their work into it, much like all the backends for pvr, I'm sure a 'browser backend' could be created. If so, it could work for many others, not just hulu.

The backend browser solution, from what I have read, is a real pain to maintain. Even a small change in the video size or position on a site can render the plugin unusable. That is why M****Mall can do this: they are a full-time for-profit company and creating channels is basically all they do.

+1 to MoneyMaker for everything and others, like learninit and lunaticks (sp?) who have also been contributing. Maybe the time has come to lock down this thread.

Read the last few pages of the thread.

tl;dr The Hulu plugin is dead, and nobody's working to fix it. Use something else to watch Hulu, like Hulu Desktop, if possible.

For those interested and to keep it out of this thread, I have created a new thread for Windows/Linux/OSX users that can run Chrome or Flashplayer projector.
