Sadly, none of the solutions listed here for launching Hulu from XBMC will work if you have an XBMC-only distribution with no desktop (like OpenElec), and in addition, even if you can install and run it on your XBMC box, it doesn't work within XBMC, so no adding Hulu shows to your library, no scrobbling to Trakt, etc.
So for me, until another intrepid hacker creates a new, functioning Hulu plugin for XBMC, I'm just using Hulu from my Blu-Ray player and ignoring my XBMC box altogether.

The best hope now is that something can be created to run hulu in the background, in a browser, that will work as a backend. There is a lot of work being done to get playon (basically a browser) working better. I am using it now for hulu, Netflix, etc. The biggest Issue with that now is controls, quality is getting much better. maybee some of that work could transition over. Addonscriptorde had been working on his browser for xbmc, but went with chrome launcher. That might be some help. If the powers that be put their work into it, much like all the backends for pvr, I'm sure a 'browser backend' could be created. If so, it could work for many others, not just hulu.

The backend browser solution, from what I have read, is a real pain to maintain. Even a small change in the video size or position on a site can render the plugin unusable. That is why M****Mall can do this: they are a full-time for-profit company and creating channels is basically all they do.
+1 to MoneyMaker for everything and others, like learninit and lunaticks (sp?) who have also been contributing. Maybe the time has come to lock down this thread.
