Hdmi audio from xbmc to Rx-v471

I have ordered a new receiver, Yamaha RX-v471

I am hoping it will solve some of my passthrough audio problems but there is one thing I am unsure about.

Will this receiver decode my audio from the Raden HD5450 using the HDMI audio driver while sending the video to the TV?

I currently have the older RX-V461 which only supports a passthrough of video/audio data to the TV and the audio must be connected either from the TV or the soundcard SPDIF output.

The new receiver has the feature Audio Return Channel which allows the TV to post the audio back through the same HDMI cable that connects the receiver to the TV. I am 100% sure my TV does not support HDMI 1.4 so this won't be possible but I am not bothered by this function as long as I don't need to send the SPDIF from the soundcard to the receiver as well.

All I am looking to do is to throw out the SPDIF cable and use the HDMI cable from my Radeon card in the hope the audio will be decrypted by the receiver.
Thanks in advance.
