Blu-ray player/burner in HTPC
#1
Here's the question. Has anyone used a Blu-ray burner in HTPC to record off air broadcast or other souce to BD or DVD. I will have only a limited size SSD in my HTPC and while I can always record to NAS or external USB drive, I'm just wondering what advantage there might be to having a Blu-ray burner as opposed to just a player in my HTPC. Any comments would be appreciated. Also, any recommended BD drives?

Looked at LG and Pioneer. But thinking this ASUS drive may be a better deal at $70 with better specs. If you agree, maybe add to your list.

I have this one (LG Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE) for more than 2 years, and I never have problem playback or burn BD with it. If you want to step up a notch, you can go for this- SONY Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE. It has better spec!

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

And what about noise? Is any Bluray drive significantly more silent than others or is it almost same?

Good question. Considering you can buy a descent near silent 3D wireless Blu-ray player for home entertainment like Panasonic BDT210 or Sony BX58 for around $100, you would sure as heck expect paying near that much for just the drive it would be quiet!
