MUSIC - Use 'originaldate' tag, if available
#1
First of all, love XBMC.

I tag/organize my music using picard, which will place the "release date" under date, and the actual year of the original release under "originaldate."

So, for example, I have a CD of an Herb Alpert album, which was originally release in 1964. The CD version, though, came out in 2005. Since the 2005 is under the "date" tag, the album shows up as 2005 in the XBMC Music Library.

Is there anyway for XBMC to use the "originaldate" tag, if available?

I know with FLAC files, that's what it shows up under ( ie, "originaldate=1964"), I'm not sure how it shows up in ID3 tags, though.

No, XBMC does not support anything other than what is read at the moment.

Would the XBMC team consider adding this functionality in a future release?

I doubt a dev will work on it unless it affects them personally. A patch would, as always, be welcome though. I'd suggest extending the music db with a key/value pair table so that arbitrary stuff could be added later.
