I tried "them all" : WMC, DVBViewer Pro, MediaPortal, MythTV, VDR, XBMC and so on .. (had to find the most WAF compatible media center :-)
I was really surprised about WMC7 - it's clean and well designed, it's fast - and it's unfortunately proprietary .. means: enhance with plugins from the community ? New skins ? forget it. It's like every M$ & Apple product - it's a case of sink or swim. (Btw. - you have payed with your computer or you have to pay for a windows 7 home premium licence to get it ..) XBMC means in the first - freedom: there are so many skins and addons for every taste. XBMC has a much better music, video and program addon support, better scrappers and grabbers. There is no database and no file format that can't be used or played. TV ? It's on the road. XBMC is a client server architecture. One server, multiple clients, even for TV. (Btw. ever tried to watch and record multiple channels with only one tv receiver card at the same time ? XBMC and every simple pvr enabled satellite receiver can handle channels on the same transponder/mux - WMC can't. Ever tried to watch scrambled TV - most DVB-C and DVB-S stuff is scrambled nowadays - lol - buy a licence for DVBLink just to enable support. With XBMC + right tv backend it's running painless). And - best of it: you don't have to use windows .. an HTPC running Win7 is the hell - tried it and it's so awfully slow compared to OpenElec .. XBMC with Linux is a Porsche (or a lambo) while WMC7 with Win7 is at most a VW Touran. So sorry guy, maybe you simply didn't get round with XBMC - but XBMC is much better than WMC ! So long LAstCoder Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server, LXDE, XBMC Frodo, Skin "Aeon Nox 4", TVHeadEnd TV Backend ASUS P8H61-M LE/USB3, Celeron G530 w. iGPU Intel HD, 4 GB DDR3 RAM 16 GB CnMemory 300x CF, 1 TB Samsung 2,5" HDD iHOS104 BluRay Drive, TT DVBS2-1600 Silverstone GD05B Case, Sony PS3 BD Remote control, Logitech Cordless Mediaboard Pro for PS3

I have a Win7 Fusion computer (AMD GPU of course). Is there a really solid Linux/XBMC build that works OOTB with Fusion setup? XMBCLive never did in the past but I know others are out there. Just interested in your thoughts. Requirements: 1- Run XBMC 2- Web Browser to play TV Shows etc from Hulu or other sites. |

Please kind sirs what is a "WMC" and how do I run it on Linux? I am not a former nigerian princesss in exile I have no monies of which to spend. The Linux is such free OS and good for hardware. Thus fars XBMC plays the Ten Eighty Pees movies I have acquired through ownership of BlueRays.
I very much like sound of WMC and inquire on its use. Thank you kind sirs for your responses. ![]() Code: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `xbmc_%`.* TO 'xbmc'@'%'; |

You must not configured it correctly for it to be awefully slow! ![]() I wouldn't say XBMC is better than 7MCE either. Both players serves its purposes very well. If you like to mess around with stuffs (me), XBMC is great and I enjoy using it very much. But for my kids, 7MCE is great for them and it work out of the box with (recorded/live TV/MCE remote) and TMT5 is integrated seamless for bitstreaming purpose. If you want to enjoy BD in full 1080P video and bitstreaming DTS-HD/TrueHD audio, 3d, recorded/live TV, HD Netflix/Hulu/Vudu, etc, Windows 7 + XBMC/7MCE is a must!
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC >Simplify XBMC configurations >HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

![]() This has turned into another Windows vs Linux vs OS X thread. The "what I use is the best so I should impose my views upon everyone else and basically shit on their preference" approach |
