I propose a build that contains just the database management piece.

When running headphones/couch potato/sick beard/mysql on a standalone client server then need to connect to an xbmc node to update the database.

This server runs 24/7 and also runs my backup client. The other xbmc servers only run when a TV is being utilized.

With raspberry pi incoming I think this layout may become more common.

I think a stripped down xbmc (no UI, no playback)(just web service and database connectivity) that allowed other services to connect and insert into the sql database would be very helpful and wouldn't cause much impact on the server it is installed on.

There's a pull request (a contribution from a developer not on the team) for this but it's still in the very, very early stages.
