RC2 problem with play back
#1
I recently upgraded to eden RC2 I have previousl gone through all the betas and RC1 with no problem at all, bu tthe RC2 I am having real diffuclties with, made worse by the fact my 15 year old son had half a dozen friends over last night for his birthday and could not get XBMC to play a movie.

basically what happens is when he selects a movie (or the particular one he wanted to watch any way) the sound seems to come out but no picture and then the only way to stop it is hit the Windows button and shut it down from task manger. I have looked in the log and this is the critical detail.

just to add to the background.... I had installed RC1 and then added the Advancedsettings.xml.... I just had a thought and deleted the advancedsettings and now it seems to work properly?

if this is the cause....should there not be notice when upgrading??

I guess I would ask, what's in your advancedsettings file??

nothing is in my advancedsettings anymore as I deleted it. I had thought that had fixed it but alas not.... I can now just about get xbmc to lock up everytime! Sad

I have never had any major issues before and now it is just not working. With 1200+ movies and 5000+ episodes I am so reluctant to rebuild from scratch!

extract from latest log if it helps anyone pin point the error.

Sorry to hear what happened! Do not "rebuild" anything. The log snippet shows that the audio codec wasn't supported by your hardware/settings.

That's odd considering it seems 86017 is stereo mp3 audio, which is readily supported.

Please post a full debug log - copy and paste it to http://www.pastebin.com and copy the link here.

Also post what your soundcard/receiver/TV is. If you are connected via HDMI it may simply have been a lost handshake and rebooting things would have worked.

This is the second thread I see with a log output where the MovieSets addon runs right before XBMC freezes. I got no clue what that addon does and when it is executed and it doesn't make sense that it involves with video playback at all. Can you disable it and see if the problem persists?

If you re-install and enable that add-on does the problem come back? Hard to see the connection but would be nice to know for other users.

re-installed it and tested a few and no problem. just a thought could the fact that I just overwrote the RC1 version with RC2 as opposed to uninstalling and reinstalling somehow have messed up the addon?

I will keep trying it but it does seem removing this addon cured it.

If you re-installed it and have no problems then it's not likely that the addon is the cause (I also don't know about it specifically) but the upgrade to RC2 should not alter your addons directory.

I do suspect it was HDMI handshaking that failed, which can happen to anyone. Fixed by re-booting. If you are not using HDMI of course this isn't the case.

Just make sure if it happens again to post the full debug log via pastebin so we can see all the info.

what I can say is yes it is connected via hdmi, but I rebooted it several times and it was still present. I will leave it running a movie whilst out this evening and see if it fails.

thanks for your help!Big Grin

Good luck & let us know. If rebooting the HTPC fails then your receiver may need to be cycled off/on as well. Just part of the poor handshaking implementations around.
