Adjust display refresh rate to match video glitches
#1
I'm running xbmc 11.0 rc2 on a Windows 7 x64 HTPC with an E-350 APU.

I'm using DXVA2 to play my files. When I have "adjust display refresh rate to match video" and I play back certain files, about five seconds in to the file, video and audio go blank for a second and then come back. This only happens once, but I get strange horizontal glitches infrequently throughout the rest of the file.

This doesn't happen with every file though.
http://pastebin.com/iiryVmX5 Will play back with no issues.

http://pastebin.com/5RuDMvh0 Gives me the described problems.

Here is my debug log: http://pastebin.com/jrk1BsB8

Hopeful bump. Sorry if this isn't allowed.

DXVA is not well supported by Intel GPUs. It is usually recommended to disable it on those chipsets.

That said, I have heard that there have been fixes made in the latest drivers. Try ensure you have the latest drivers and try again. If that fails you will probably have to disable DXVA until the drivers are fixed.
System: XBMC HTPC with HDMI WASAPI & AudioEngine - Denon  AVR-3808CI  - Denon DVD-5900 Universal Player  - Denon DCM-27 CD-Changer
- Sony BDP-S580 Blu-Ray  - X-Box 360  - Android tablet wireless remote - 7.1 Streem/Axiom/Velodyne Surround System
If I have been able to help feel free to add to my reputation +/- below - thanks!

You must have mixed up with other threads. E-350 APU is AMD, and it should work fine with DXVA....

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Anyway- if you haven't update your APU driver to the latest driver, you can update it from here- AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver.

It seems the issue is related to screen resolution settings. The movie that is playback fine is at- Width: 1860 pixels and Height: 1048 pixels and the movie that is having problem is at Width: 1920 pixels and Height: 1080 pixels. I'm suggesting to go with W7 recommended screen resolution and set XBMC as shown below:

Drivers are definitely up to the latest version. I've got other movies/series at 1920x1080 that play fine, and I've got other movies/series at 1280x720 that show the same issues.

Is it 12.1?

Since you are having problem with "adjust display refresh rate to match video", have you try to un-check it as shown below:

Yes, if I uncheck that it solves the issue, but I get strange judder and other undesirable effects.

If I had the same issue with every file, I'd not even bother, but it's only some of these files. Going through, I believe that all the ones I'm having problems with were converted by someone from 10bit to 8bit. Should that have any significance? Maybe I can get the files again in 10bit and reencode them myself?

That can be an issue. Did you downloaded the files from the net? Maybe, you can try to convert one bad file with Handbrake or DVDFab. If that fix it, you will have your answer!

Attempting a conversion now with staxrip. I had a hard time finding the required settings to comply with dxva, but I'm going with:

--tune animation --crf 20 --level 4.1 --ref 4 --bframes 3 --direct auto --no-deblock --trellis 2 --vbv-bufsize 50000 --vbv-maxrate 50000 --me umh

So we'll see. Thanks very much for all your help.

I'm on an E350 as well and everything is fine here. Why are you using that windowed mode ? I'm not (I use a true fullscreen). Furthermore I have that adjust display to match video selected and i have NOT selected 'sync playback to display' (why would you do that anyway, unless you have a TV that doesn't support the needed display modes of course, but I doubt that the E350 is fast enough to resync on the fly).

I don't think any of that is his problem. His downloaded files might be the problem here. Some files are playback fine....he have tried all combinations with the bad files, and nothing seem to work!
