Looking for help with HDTV monitor issue

Hi guys,

Got my build up and running and am loving it.

Hardware specifics:
AMD A6-3500
Gigabyte A75 MB
HDMI to my Onkyo Receiver
HDMI from receiver to Samsung 55" Plasma TV

I am running XBMC, SABnzbd and Sickbeard.

Everything is up and running just fine. My only issue so far is with the video signal out. I leave the 'puter running 24/7 for Sickbeard, but I turnoff the receiver and TV when not needed.

Most of the time, but not always, when I turn the receiver and TV back on, I get no picture. Just a blank TV screen. If I unplug and replug the HDMI cable from the MB, the signal comes back on, but I have and error message onscreen saying a problem has been detected with the video that will not allow me to use the full resolutions of the display, but it is in the full resolution. All is fine until the next time I try to cycle the display power.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks
Michael

might sound silly but the order in which you do those things can be important.
HDMI handshakes occur when you turn devices on/off, but PCs can be interesting.
If I'm correct you have this setup:
  • PC with HDMI
  • PC connected to AV Receiver
  • AV Receiver HDMI out goes to TV
and you're saying you turn off your TV and receiver at night.

I would try combinations of turning the TV on first, then the receiver
or turning the receiver on first, then the TV.
If you're still getting no luck, ensure that your PC display is set to go to sleep, and the act of "waking it up" in the morning should force another HDMI handshake. in which case I would press ENTER on your PC to wake it up before turning the receiver on etc. and also try combinations of that.

Hope you get it sorted!

I have been leaving my HTPC running 24/7 also. HDMI direct to TV.
When I switch back over to the HTPC input, I just press a button on my remote or keyboard and the screen pops back up.

Wow!!! $85Huh

I suppose it could come to that, but. I gotta try some other solutions first. I hope I don't wind up needing that, but if so, well, gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks for the responses,
Michael

this is really good actually
you could schedule this to run when windows returns from sleep even.

I just checked with windows 7, in the Task Scheduler you create a new task to run when the following event is logged:
Log: System
Source: Power-Troubleshooter
Event ID 1

not sure if hibernation is treated any differently
