IOGEAR GKM571R Black USB RF Wireless Mini Keyboard with Trackball, Scroll Wheel and Backlight LED

I purchased this on a discount code provided with Newegg's e-mail specials. Its regular price is 79.99 but with the discount code it was 39.99 and I have seen it on sale twice since I bought mine.

Its small, slightly larger then palm sized. But not like phone size small. It requires a reach to get your thumb all the way accost it. The USB dongle is small also and has a resting spot in the battery compartment of the device when its not in use. You can and I did plug the USB dongle in upside down. It's that small, which is a good thing as it doesn't stick out much to get bent by something. The track ball is small. It feels cheep and requires good manual dexterity to operate. However it is accurate and ounce I got use to it I was fine with it. The back light is perfect. Activated by a light sensor and touch its not on till you need it. It has a function key for secondary key strokes and the up, down, right, left keys are secondary (only really con I could see) but its has a forward, back buttons as primary so web browsing is fast. Its distance was great. 35 feet at least and about 5 feet around a corner. Another cool feature was that when your in a sleep state just open the lid and it wakes up.

Overall I love this keyboard it was a great find for $40

I have this keyboard and had the same complaint. In fact, it is/was the only complaint I had. This issue was easily resolved on Windows using Autohotkey to remap the arrow keys. Now no longer secondary functions. I am very pleased with the keyboard now.

To get the "comma", "period", etc. keys working you have to remap those as well. And yes the use of the function key is needed for these keys after remapping. This is ok for me because the primary use is for my htpc.

Here is a quick walk-through of what I did:

1. Install Autohotkey http://www.autohotkey.com/
2. Follow the guide from Autohotkey about creating scripts to remap keys. The basic format is (example of remapping the "." key to the "Down" key) => .:Big Grinown
You open a text file put ".:Big Grinown" (minus the quotes) in it. Then change the extension of the file from .txt to .ahk. After creating the script you can right-click on it and select "run script" and the keys will be remapped.
3. To make the re-mappings stick across reboots Autohotkey allows you to compile the scripts into executable files. Just right-click on the .ahk file and select "compile script". This will create an executable file that can be placed in your startup folder.
4. The only hiccup I had was in remapping the semicolon key. Autohotkey recognizes a semicolon as a comment symbol for the line of text in a script. So to remap the semicolon you have to use this format => `;::Up
5. If you want to stop the scripts/executable go to your system tray and "exit" the individual scripts you want to stop.

Here is a link to download the .ahk scripts for remapping the up, down, left, right, semicolon, period, forward slash, and comma http://goo.gl/praUI

Ive had this 6 months now. Just wanted to do an update to the keyboard. I love this thing. It still works great. Easy to use in the dark. Good battery life. The only thing that has gone wrong is the little rubber feet came off the bottom. I didn't even notice until I found one on the floor. Its been a good investment
