I've run Raspberry Pis and the ATV1 was definitely a bit snappier in UI terms - but the video handling on the Pi (including interlaced content) was possibly a little bit better.

My ATV1 + BCHD handles interlaced content like a champ. There is some odd bug with the BCHD and some live TV streams, like those from TVheadend via PVR, but oddly enough, the ATV1 can software decode most 1080 interlaced streams (interlaced mpeg2 is pretty easy for the CPU, even at 1080). Recorded content plays back fine even on hardware decoding/BCHD.

Crystalbuntu (wiki) or OpenELEC (wiki) is a must to get that performance, of course.
