Caching while playing - increase
#1
I've tried searching the forums and the wiki to no avail, I may not be using the correct terminology.

Is it possible to have XBMC continue to cache a file while playing?

Specifically, I have a freenas server with all of my media. When I click to play a video file I would like it to start playing right away but while playing to 'preload' the rest of the entire video onto the local xbmc machine's hard drive.

This way my media starts immediately but xbmc would have the entire movie on the local drive in a minute or so and the server would be able to go back to sleep or work on other tasks instead of serving bits of the video for the entire duration.

Cheers

no, but it has been a requested feature before. Would be nice for power savings on NAS's and even on wireless HDDs (for tablets, etc). It would even be nice just to cut down on how long the network is tied up. Perhaps in the future it will be added. It might even be something that could be hacked in the meantime via some scripts and a modified skin.
