Hi again,
I still don't have an option to update to the final Eden on the XBMC download menu from my ATV 1G. Is there any other way to update ...that doesn't involve risking loosing my current settings and add-ons?
My only options is (as before):
XBMC 10.1 - Dharma
XBMC 11.0 - Eden - RC2
XBMC Rev: 20120302
Any thoughts, anyone?

Ok - final Eden just turned up on the downloads, so everything is fine in the land of XBMC...

Alternative install instructions:
On a desktop do this:
1. Download the normal (non-PPC) XBMC for Mac download and extract it from the dmg.
2. Get Cyberduck (free) and open a new SFTP connection (I think SSH/SFTP is on by default on a patched ATV1)
3. Use the IP address of the Apple TV. Username and password is both: frontrow
4. Navigate to the Applications folder in Cyberduck
5. Copy the XBMC.app you downloaded to this folder (drag and drop into Cyberduck)
I'm on my phone right now, so I'm hoping this is mostly right.
