It freezes at splashscreen for me when using -d 30(30 sec delay start) on startup shortcut. Did not have the problem w/Dharma. Only fix I found was to install 3rd party startup delay software.

hey i figured it out. i have 2 graphics cards, the nvidia one and the integrated graphics card. i just went into the nvidia settings and selected the nvidia video card to be the preferred graphics processor for xbmc. works like a charm now!

Hello, I tried this also but it doesn't help.
I will have a look for a BIOS upgrade and will tell you.
Any other ideas so far?

i had to roll back my nvidia drivers all the way for it to work. and keep in mind, once you roll it back, you have to go back into the nvidia settings again and set the preferred graphics card for xbmc to the card again.

I have the exact same problem as you and also Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.00GHz, 16.00 GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 550M. Is there any chance you would tell step-by-step exactly how you solved the problem and tell what version your graphic driver is and how you solved problems with it?

Same problem .. Running WindowsXP, ATI 9200SE graphic.
I get black screen and Windows "xbmc has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. So far no solution. I had default windows graphic drivers and then installed Catalyst - but it is the same - seeing the log, it stops at CRemoteControl.

This is my log: http://pastebin.com/4PtXAg9T

Note: on my Win7 machine runs fine.

Hoping for a quick fix! :\

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that has the same problem. Running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with all updates. Intel HD 3000 video adapter.

I have found that if I disable a service named stllssvr [SureThing Labelflash Disc Printer Service] (which is evidently a service installed by Roxio which was pre-packaged on the laptop) ... XBMC will start properly (and if I renable it, XBMC will (again) hang on the Splash Screen basically forcing a full reboot to fix). I didn't have to reboot after disabling the service ... just disable it and give it a try.

Just thought I'd mention it in-case it helps others.

UPDATE: I have also realized that I had turned off the Windows Firewall and when I turned it back on,,, it failed again ... but ... I then added XBMC.exe to the Inbound and Outbound rules of the firewall (adding public, private and domain for inbound and outbound definitely works ... need to tweek it some to make it safer, but now it's a firewall issue and it's working with the firewall on).
