it seems to me that creating thumbnails and loading images is much slower than it should be. i'm currently doing a recursive thumbnail generation on my pictures (through a samba share) and it's taken around an hour for 2000 pictures. i have windows xp on a few systems of mine (from 500 mhz to 2.2 ghz) and dozens of thumbnails can be created in a matter of seconds, even through a network share. picture loading is also dramatically faster on these machines. there has to be a way for this to be improved, right?
