So with uPNP it works beautifully even now and unlike FTP, seeking is not an issue. The one thing I could not yet figure out is how to get uPNP to be recognized as library rather than file store but I am sure there is a way

There isnt, IIRC uPnP cannot be used for library updates etc atm. But you can use SMB, NFS and others.
