man, BSOD now...

yeah, PC was up and running fine for a week i guess since my SSD mayhem,,,
while watching youtube using FireFox Portable, i got this BSOD.

--> Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_Area <--

isn't that pretty?

anyways, i checked online http://ohonei.hubpages.com/hub/What-Is-P...paged-Area
and basically, windows requested data in the Nonpaged_Area that it couldn't find..
hence BSOD...

anyways, im doing a MemTEST as we speek..
just to see....

i already did a chkdsk /F on my drives.

after the memTEST, if all is ok with my RAM,
i'll do a 30minutes stability check with FURMARK.

if the GPU doesnt crash, well, issue is software wise...
it happend once, today, i've been stable for a week at least...

Now, maybe its firefox portable?
i dunno,,, i can always try the installed version after my hardware tests,,,

however, i did update my FLash PLayer, but it was already on the latest version :/

i do have COMODO FIREWALL and AVIRA ANTIVIR installed...
sometimes, these 2 can conflict, but i was stable for a week so,
i dunno,,, these things are hard to pin point,,,

at this point, i dont know,,,,

seems unlikely but dont forget that article raises the point that it could be the L1/L2 cache on the CPU causing the fault.
edit: because software can't choose to write to the non-paged area, it's extra unlikely it's a software fault.

saids whom?Huh

the error is when software writes to ram that is already in use, ie critical services/processes, the OS writes to it all the time.
if flash player is the only piece of software changed, uninstall and install again (quite possible it could also be avira accidentally loaded something into the non-paged area of ram)
80% of times a bad stick of ram is to blame

well after my MemTEST, 15 passes later, no Errors detected at all....
my RAM is good....

im pretty sure its software, i'll try to uninstall AVIRA ANTIVIR.
its the last thing i installed on my HTPC.

my HTPC was running stable for a week but i did install AVIRA the last day....
so its not that i tested stability for another week when avira is installed...

again, could be it, and maybe not...
i'll report findings.

there's also a fix in SP1 for win7 about the error i had,,,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951418

i dont have SP1 installed, so i'll install the fix.
but still, i never got that stop error before even tho SP1 wasnt on my PC..
thats why i think its software related...

Man... when I installed McAfee I got the blue screen. I been using Microsoft Security Essentials... no problems. Hope it's nothing major.

Don't mean to offend, but the common denominator present during all failures and tests seems to be... Windows!!
Trash that and go with Linux... you may even like it Wink

hope so too,,,

well, like i sais, MemTEST says ram is good after 15 passes...

however, HD-TUNE reports communications error

Image

i can always swap sata cable from my WD to my SSD and see,,

HD-Tune reports no issues what so ever with my WD so, cable must at least be good!

Maybe its the SSD... since it already crapped out on you.

or maybe the sata cable, as the ssd could have crap'ed out because of it.

and im leaning towards the sata cable now,

but like i said, HD-Tune reports no issues what so ever with my WD so its sata cable must at least be good!

i'll use it on my SSD and see what HD TUNE reports, if it still reports communications error, well,

i dont know anymore, i'll try to RMA my SSD i guess,,, lol

I think I may try to RMA mine as well! But I didn't get a warning when running the HD tune software only wretched performance when multitasking. ShutDown and Boot times are horrible. I'm running a Core2 Quad 6700 with 6GB RAM and this SSD and my HTPC blows it out of the water when it comes to performance and speed, especially when running XBMC
