Linux XBMCbuntu Install works nothing like the "Try it first"
#1
I have a pretty old install from XBMC live. I thought I'd upgrade to XBMCbuntu. Not being willing to risk the wrath of my wife and child, I thought I'd install to USB while I test/tweak to get everything working. I'm really glad I did.

When I boot from CD, the "try XBMC without installing" option works great. But when I install, everything goes to hell.

Problem #1: The boot takes forever. It takes approximately 3 minutes to boot. It's two minutes before the splash screen comes up.

dmesg shows this:

Problem #2: nvidia driver can't be loaded. Relevant portion of the Xorg.0.log is:

I was able to fix this using 'jockey-text', though I'm not sure if that was a good way or not, because:

Problem #3: I have no sound, and none of the settings seem to work. I see that the live CD uses a custom output device "plug:both", and I haven't tried typing that in yet, but I have no sound in either the interface nor through passthrough, and I've tried all the options. I'm trying to output sound through HDMI.

Again, everything works perfectly in the live demo, but I'd like one that can keep my library up to date on. Any way to actually get a clone of the live cd install, only writeable?

Some technical details:
* I've tried this installation to two different PC's, both of which have nVidia graphics cards. One is an Zotac ION, the other is my home PC with a GeForce 560 Ti.
* I've tried this installation to two different USB drives. Both were 16GB.
* I initially tried installing from USB, but have switched to installing from a CD.

I know this is a lot for one post, but I'd appreciate any help I can get. I'm thinking about tar'ing up the filesystem from the live install and selectively replacing directories on the installed copy next...

Known bugg in Grub2. Not possible to install on USB while another disk is inserted.
Only solution is to downgrade to legacy grub or stop doing it.
