Xbmcbuntu and radeon mobility 1900
#1
Hello,
as a linux newbee i set up xbmc eden via xbmcbuntu (3.0.0-16) beside a windows partition in an emty linux partition. Updated it to Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-17-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP on Thu Mar 8 17:34:21 UTC 2012.
Its on a Amilo xi 1554 netbook (i686; Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2GB) with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 256 MB.
XBMC started very choppy. Colour depth was too low . Almost impossible to use the mouse or touchpad. Unable to play any media file in a correct manner. like stop and go but more stop than go. Fan excellerated to max.
When i switched to xbmcbuntu GUI all went smooth. But I could't set it to the highest Res. 1900x1200, what is normally possible with this notebook.
That's what I found helpful >>click - it's in german language<<:
All the following was done via synaptic package manager:
I Installed the following packages:
xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.14.99~git20110811.g93fc084-0ubuntu1)
xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg (1:6.14.99~git20110811.g93fc084-0ubuntu1)
xserver-xorg-video-mach64 (6.9.0-1)
xserver-xorg-video-mach64-dbg (6.9.0-1)
xserver-xorg-video-r128 (6.8.1-5)
xserver-xorg-video-r128-dbg (6.8.1-5)
xserver-xorg-video-radeon (1:6.14.99~git20110811.g93fc084-0ubuntu1)
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-dbg (1:6.14.99~git20110811.g93fc084-0ubuntu1)

and removed the following:
fglrx (2:8.881-0ubuntu4.1)
fglrx-amdcccle (2:8.881-0ubuntu4.1)
xvba-va-driver
fglrx-amdcccle-updates
fglrx-updates

After that I was able to set up 1900x1200 in xmbcbuntu and it worked fine.
When i switch to xbmc eden from xbmcbuntu it does everything good. No chopping around whatever.
Also when I logout from xmbcbuntu and log in at XBMC. everything perfect so far.
Now I reboot and XBMC starts direktly. And it's as choppy as before with all the effects like on start.
When I logout from XBMC, GUI crashes. After some seconds, it is possible to log into xmbcbuntu over an almost destroyed GUI. xmbcbuntu starts with the correct resolution on a recreated GUI. No hanging or so.
When I switch back to XBMC it's also good again.... until the next reboot. Confused
In short: I've to go over xbmcbuntu to run XBMC correctly. A direkt start to XBMC is b.s.
----
Also:
I changed the boot resolution to 800x600 by startup-manager because the original font size was too small for my old eyes Tongue.

I also deinstalled pulseaudio packages.
libcanberra-pulse
pulseaudio
pulseaudio-esound-compat
pulseaudio-module-x11

So please, who can tell me what i have to change for a correct start directly in XBMC EDEN?
I think something goes wrong in the graphic setup. But I have no idea where to search.

Thanks for any response

I have a HP Compaq NX8220 the problem you described is exactly the same as the one I encounter and the solution you described works also except as you mentioned as soon as you reboot the issue occurs again. Did you end up solving your problem?

seems the X driver is not loaded for some reason when directly logging into xbmc.
Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log while being in the xbmc session(best via ssh from another PC)
