Building 2 HTPC (one for my folks who live at distance). So basically, i like to able to control the htpc from remote location using my Mac computer to install updates, modify things and so on... what software should i install on the htpc for efficiently and easily do this. thanks Mac

I have personally used http://www.teamviewer.com/ - I would install TeamViewer Host on your folks, then you use the TeamViewer full version.

Edit: I have also used LogMeIn and it works well and lets you access the PC from a web browser, TeamViewer requires a client (you can download the portable one and use it anywhere). Just thought I should explain the differences in software.

Edit 2: I didn't read all of your title, so my suggestion will not help you but it might help someone who is looking for a client based solution.
