Noob - i3-3225 Build advice
#1
After spending more hours then I like to admit on this forum, I'm taking the dive into my first computer build.

I still have very little idea what i'm doing, so any help is great.

Goals.
DVR - HD Homerun Prime, xbox extender
Blu-Ray movies playback. (maybe 3D or 4k in years ahead when I get a new TV)
Play some games(Nintendo games or newer games)

Case: ?
$54 Mobo:ASRock H77M-ITX 1155 mITX

$120 CPU: i3-3225

$150 HDD: 3tb WD Red

SSD: ?
$35 RAMM: 8gb, 1600, Samsung low profile & Voltage

DVD/BluRay:
IR Remote: Harmony?
KeyBoard & Mouse: TBD
OS: Windows 7 + xbmc
$100 HD Homerun Prime

1.) No idea what case to get. Since my motherboard is CIR should i get a different case?
Ideally i would like a very small case that could accept one 3.5 hd, one 2.5 SSD, no gnu, one fan. But don't think that exists.

PC-Q18 - http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/pro...=64&g=spec

2.) I read this forum but still now sure what i'll need to get. Do I need to drill in my box and order another part?

3.) SSD: samsung 830 or 840? How much power difference will this make? If marginal i'd go with 830 or even something cheaper.

4.) Motherboard, i have no idea what i'm doing(SATA III, fan power connectors, optical drive...) but I'm guessing it has enough to connect 2 HD, 1 SSD, 1 fan, optical drive, CIR, USB 3 & arm?
Here's a list of mobo on sale if anyone can see a better fit? http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=94199

Thanks in advance! I'll post pics when done.

Go with an 830....
I pretty much did this same build a few days ago. I ended up getting a Vertex 4 90gb for like $65...but i would rather have the 830. It is actually faster than the 840.

That board is perfect. You will like it! Same with the RAM. that is the only RAM i use anymore.

Where did you find the Homerun Prime for $100?

Thanks for the info derek.

I guess I should have gone with the 830 64gb for $50 on newegg a few days ago. But didn't know much about this stuff just a few days ago Smile

I picked up the Homerun Prime from woot.com a month or so ago. Same warranty and works great so i'm happy.

No problem. If you are shopping at Microcenter, I would go back there and see what they have for you.
