Is there any way to remove the shutdown option on the apple tv 1st gen so there is just the exit option so I don't then have to reboot my atv box every time i acdently select it ?

Settings -> System -> Power savings -> Shutdown function
Change it to Quit. That way it will just quit instead of shutting down.

ive set it to quit but it still shuts down the apple tv

Really? It shouldn't.. I had the same set up for a while myself. I'll have to boot my ATV1 back into normal ATV OS (I've since moved to Crystalbuntu (wiki)), but I'll try this again myself and reply back.
