Tips on setup: resolution and other
#1
I've been using a Pivos AIOS media extender for the last 15 months. It's a good device, except for my speakers popping at each pause/unpause when watching content with any 5.1 encoded content. 2 channel = no popping. Anyway, I wanted to try XBMC, so here I am.

98% of my content is 720p. Of the remaining 2%, 1.8% is 1080p, and the rest is SD. The issue I'm having is choosing the correct resolution on my tv that does not alter the aspect ratio of the content when playback begins. Most content is 16:9, others are 2.35:1, 2.55:1, 4:3, etc. I want all content to display as fullscreen as is possible without input from me and without altering the content. The Pivos does this, no matter what the source resolution. For playback, do I choose normal, stretch 16:9 for 16:9 content, something else for 4:3 content, etc? Does playback setting change depending on the resolution of the content? Should I alter the display's resolution depending on the content?

Thanks.

If most of your content is 720p, there should not be any issues but you might have black borders depending on the aspect. If you want to ensure NO black borders then use the zoom tool or optional rotate the presets with the z key (I guess you'll have to program that into the remote keymap). Once you pick an aspect or zoom for a particular film XBMC retains that setting for the film. Other sized content like 1080p or 480i etc will be adjusted to fit whatever parameters you have set for videos. (using the OSD while playing video, enter the video settings tool 'the projector icon' and adjust your video calibration, and save as default for all videos).

The Z key mapped to your remote for the most part, should meet your needs, try it from the keyboard.
