Linux XBMCbuntu 11.0 crashing when playing back video
#1
Bug
Pastebin of not terribly useful crashlog: http://pastebin.com/WMWuhnUV

Haven't had a chance to fully investigate this (still at work), but my guests have encountered a crash scenario on one of my XBMC systems. XBMC is crashing immediately after selecting a video to playback. The X Windows "X" cursor is displayed, and the system typically recovers, XBMC reloads, rinse, repeat. When it first occurred, it does not recover and hung at the X cursor, so I had to reboot it manually.

The system was just working up to about twenty minutes ago. They have been watching TV last night and all day today without issue. Even the videos that were working previously now exhibit this behavior. I have not yet had time to try other filetypes. I can update later with further testing when I'm finished with work for the day.

This is a clean installation of XBMCbuntu (rather than upgrade, the disk was completely reformatted). Previously, I was running XBMC Live (Dharma) without any similar issues.

I can SSH to the affected machine from my current location, so let me know if there is any additional information that would be useful.

Well, I just spent a few minutes throwing different types of video formats at it, and the issue reproduces on all of them. Additional Pastebins:

Different .MKV, this one actually displays some errors: http://pastebin.com/aKcMwjFH
XVID .AVI: http://pastebin.com/17ftP70Q
DVD ISO (menus functional, but crashes when I selected a chapter for playback): http://pastebin.com/Mcqn491A

Hope this gives some insight. Again, if there's any additional information I can provide, please let me know. If this is something that should get a proper bug filed against it, I'm up for that, but please keep in mind that this is released software installed on my primary HTPC, and I'd really rather not keep in broken for very long.

Here's the relevant bit from the log that shows errors:

amerrrykan,

I have had the same set of experiences using XBMCBuntu. Basically, I was having problems with my HDD install of XBMC and decided to try my 8Gb USB stick with XBMCbuntu loaded on it.

Funny, thing how our experiences are exactly the same.

My crash log is here if anybody cares to offer assistance. Thanks in advance for any support.

I'm starting to see a lot of this going on. I have had it happen with my two HTPC's with fresh installs. My Revo seems to have the issues the most.

Hi All,

I ran an update today in terminal and discovered a minor upgrade in xmbc, xmbc-debuginfo and xmbc-debugsource.

I should mention that my main system is running openSuSE 12.1 with the KDE desktop. I had only tried XBMCbuntu on a 8Gb stick to see if there was a difference in performance. There was none.

The main purpose of getting XMBC running is to use Super TV. After the update it still crashes.

Better luck next time. LOL!
