Hello,
I'm an XBMC user under Windows and I've told my little brother to try it.
My brother has an old barebone Shuttle SB61G2/V3 (http://www.shuttle.eu/_archive/older/en/...#sb61g2v3) connected to its TV so he has tried and installed Dharma and Eden Live distributions.
He told to me that all is slooooow ... He changed the graphics card to a GeForce FX5700LE-TD256 and is sloooow too. The mouse is not usable (big) and the keyboard moves through the menu by 3-5 seconds.
So my question is: do you think that XBMC will work in his setup?
If not, do you know some kind of HTPC software that he can use? (he said to me that using VLC under Windows XP worked well).
Thanks.
Linux Can XBMC run on old Shuttle SB61G2/V3 ?

Hi again,
I've downloaded the ISO for XBMCbuntu and tried it in an old laptop (Toshiba SA50-522 - http://es.computers.toshiba-europe.com/i..._ID=95767) that seems to me older than my brother's shuttle: - Intel® Pentium® M 715, Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG and chipset Intel® 855GME And it runs smooth. I've played some DivX/Xvid AVI files and play well (0 drop frames). I've tried to force it to the maximum and play an x264/720p video ;-) ... and of course, it drops a lot of frames but you can see it at 100%CPU ;-) So, it seems that I need to tell my brother to adjust its Linux settings (or install XP and try XBMC for Windows). Any more ideas? The Shuttle SB61G2/V3 can run XBMC Dharma as long as the following is installed.
a P4 3Ghz with Hyper-Threading. And a Geforce 6100 or greater AGP Graphics Card. The FX5700 is below spec for Dharma, and the minimum is a 6100 ( I use a G6150 and Dharma runs fine, very fluid). Hope the helps. Rob |

Thanks Rob,
As far I know the Intel 855GME that has my old laptop is below spec for Dharma too. And I can run Eden from a CD very well for standard SD content as I've told in the previous post. So, I'll tell my brother to look into the propietary drivers for the NVidia card. Thanks again. Someone released a newer nvidia card for PCI. You could try that.

(2012-04-09 22:13)serieofilo Wrote: Thanks Rob, Yep, Intel 945 is the minimum if I recall right, not too sure. And your right Eden can run with Sd content very nicely. As for the propietary drivers for Nvidia, you need a different Card, Drivers aren't going to make a difference as the 5700 hasn't the right OpenShader level. Damn, having trouble recalling this info. |
