OS X XBMC & DAC, craklings
#1
Hi,

I use XBMC with a DAC* and, when it is connected via USB, I hear crackling noises during some parts of movies or TV shows

I think it might be XBMC because I have tested another DAC, a brand new one, mine with only a few months.

Thanks for your help.

Don't know if it's clear so here is my system :
- Mac Mini (2010) with OS X 10.6 aka Snow Leopard
- Atoll CD 200 / DAC 200 / PR 300 / AM 200
- LCD LOEWE Individual Selection 40 DR+

Currently the DAC is connected to :
- the LCD using HDMI
- the Mac Mini using USB (HiFi)

The LCD is connected to the DAC using coaxial (digital) for TV programs like concerts ...

In XBMC i have two type / profiles of parameters :
1. Audio output : digital & output device : USB -> Crackling
2. Audio output : HDMI & output device : HDMI

I'm mainly using the first one, i've crated the second to watch movies & TV show without the HiFi system turned on.

I know I've heard about this issue before, but I can't find the thread for the life of me. If I find it, I'll be sure to post it.

My Mac only has analog out and optical out (no sound over HDMI adapter), and I don't have a receiver with an optical input, or else I would try to reproduce this.

Thanks Blush

The log can't help finding the problem, solving it ?

Edit:
Don't consider HDMI for sound, the problem is on the USB out.

Hi,

I've just made a clean install to see what happens.

Indeed, if cracklings are still there this mean i cannot use my DAC for videos Confused

News crackling while watching a movie.

The movie media info :

The XBMC log :
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=GYJv2yua

I've stopped playback for switching on log and it was ok, means without crackling, for about 10 minutes.

Thank you for your help, it's very frustrating not to be able to use my DAC for video.

For information, cracklings appears with the following customizing (System / Audio output):
1. Audio output : optical/coax & Audio output device : Defaut audio output device
2. Audio output : optical/coax & Audio output device : Atoll USB 2.0 drivers

Maybe this can help Huh

Thanks

Hi,

Here is another log to help find why there are somes cracklings :
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=07sWVNmx

Although i heard cracklings yesterday evening while watching a movie and a TV show, situation is a bit different today. Indeed i was watching a TV show, i had a call so i "pause" the playback and after resuming, about 30- 45 minutes after, there where only crackling, not in background as usual but for every sound, speech or not.

Hope this help

Thanks

We have a complete new audio engine in current mainline code. Its not likly that bugs in the old audioengine will be attacked by us. You could try with the latest nightly build and see if your problem still exists. If this is a problem in the new audio engine aswell then maybe someone would dig deeper into it...
