Just to add to the above, while DTS-MA tracks can't be decoded to multi-channel PCM on ION1, all DTS-MA tracks contain an embedded DTS 5.1 core track than can be decoded by ION1 to multi-channel PCM.
Reply
Although presumably the default behaviour would be to bitstream the DTS core track, as long as you have selected "DTS Capable Receiver" in the settings.
Reply
Yes, you should have the option to passthrough the DTS core track as is or decode to PCM depending on the DTS Capable Receiver setting

Please take a look at my issue here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=145451

I get Error - no device found in XBMCBuntu Frodo Beta 1.

Update

I build XBMC for XBMCBuntu on todays Git with this patch applied https://github.com/fritsch/xbmc/commit/d...964290fc04
I am now passed the error no devices but I am unable to get audio out of my speakers using S/PDIF on AT5IONT-I motherboard (Nvidia).
Tried all of the output devices although there is only one that makes sense "HDA Intel, ALC887 Digital S/PDIF".
I remember that I got two S/PDIF output devices on Eden and only one of them worked.

I was able to play Dolby Digital and DTS files right after installing the alpha version but noticed that the track timer runs at doublespeed. When the timer has nearly reached the track length audio output stops and XBMC moves on to the next track (still no sound). When selecting a new track manually, sound plays again with the same problem.

I'm using a first generation ION and the 2:11.9.6~git201209032026~8aaa44d-1~ppa1~oneiric daily build from nathan-renniewaldock ppa on a standard installation of Ubuntu 11.

I put details and logs in a ticket.

I'm still having this issue as well. Has there been a fix yet?

Hi,

I'm trying to get my MSI N210 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002SQ9ZKA) working with the new AE. Has anyone had any luck with this card? Trying to figure out where I should start to get this working or if I should bite the bullet and get a new card (really like the silent card though).

Hi,

I have a (old) Nforce 4 motherboard with a realtek iec958. I would like to use the optical out to my amp (dolby digital 5.1). Unfortunately it works in normal mode, but not in passtrough (when I have a 5.1 encoding). Any idea of how fixing the problem?

EDIT: I don't get any error message.

Thanks a lot.

You need to patch your kernel to allow bitstreaming on Intel. If you search through this thread you'll find the patches necessary to compile a custom kernel.

Kernel patch or maybe patches for alsa you have on mind? For alsa I have patches but the effect is the same.

Hey guys,

Im using wsnipex's xbmc-xvba build for Ubuntu 12.04 on AMD Fusion E450.
Just wondering what steps to follow to setup audio ?

Looking at the logs the following are detected. Still confused why it shows two HDMI Generic entries.

It is possible to play stereo material on the passthrough device? A number of us use external DACs (optical or USB connection) and used to use a custom audio string with Eden eg. (hw:0,1 - or plughw dependant on model) to force all audio unfettered to the DAC for processing - this gave us nice bit-perfect playback.

It seems that AE of the box wont play 44.1khz material without trying to resample it (badly in some cases) and the audiophile setting in advancedsettings.xml can cause issues with DVD playback with the audio trying to play at 44.1 rather than 48.

All suggestions greatly received!

a solution to get a bitperfect output would be very nice.

You may want to try a latest build. Im using Openelec and something seems to have happened between Beta1 and Beta2 - I'm getting proper lock on 44.1,48 and 96Khz (16 and 24 bit) on a DACMagic using USB (16 bit only as its an older device) or Optical (everything) without any special settings.
