OS X Dolby/DTS or Multichannel PCM ?! Which is better?
#1
Hi,

What is the best Audio out choices for my setup?

Do I select Dolby and DTS passthrough?

If i do I cannot control the audio with a Remote ios app - only my harmony.

At the moment it's Audio / video to the AVR via HDMI - I have them off an it's on Multi-Channel PCM... Is this a good setting? Will dolby digital etc file be passed though correctly?

The AVR shows all 5 speakers being used.

Thanks in advance.

PCM processes the audio on your Mac Mini and outputs the channels to the receiver, which plays them back as-is from the Mac Mini.

I believe DTS bitstreams it to your receiver and it is processed there.

If you have a very high end receiver and speakers, you might be able to notice a difference. Many people can't notice a difference. Try both out for a few days or a few movies, and if it sounds the same to you, use PCM if iOS control is important.
