I find myself checking regularly between my htpc and xbox to see if my friends came online. Weird this add on doesn't exist, seen that it all originated on the xbox

Not sure if there would be much demand for this as a core-feature, but it should work as an add-on quite well. Might want to make a request in the add-on sub-forum to see if anyone will bite. IIRC, it's fairly easy to tap into that API for xbox live, but that's just from what I've heard other people say (and it could have been in my head...).
You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Add-on:YouTube]] = Add-on:YouTube, [[Adding videos to the library]] = Adding videos to the library, [[userdata]] = userdata, etc |
