Linux AAC 5.1 audio, only outputting stereo sound problem
#1
so I have this video file, that is encoded with aac 5.1 sound, however when I play it, I'm only getting stereo sound from the speakers, and from what i'm hearing, it sounds like ONLY the left and right channel, (ie, voices that should be coming out of center channel are very faint / hard to hear out of left/right speakers)

the following it the debug log from when I started playing the file, to it stopping http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=1607

If I look at the codec information using VLC, it shows as Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a); Channels: 3F2R/LFE; Sample rate: 48000 Hz

Any ideas why my receiver would only be picking up Stereo sound output when playing these types of files?

P.S., mkv files with a 5.1 encoding play through just fine with full sound.

I can provide any other information if asked.

Thanks!

so still having some issues with this.

this is the debug output when playing the video file
Image
as you can see, it says it's got 5.1 output, but when playing it, my receiver only receives LINEAR PCM 48KHz for 2.1 channels (L, R, LFE)

any ideas why XBMC wouldn't be passing the audio correctly from this file?

For the many people who must be having this same problem I've figured out the solution. It's counter intuitive since you want to be outputting both video and audio over hdmi but you change your audio setting to output audio as optical/coax and all will be well! All audio will still come out of hdmi, dts will be dts still and so on.
