Volume display missing?

When I use my Rosewill remote no volume display comes up. Is this the skin? I ran across a post that said something about appcommands but not sure if that is my case.

It's not the skin - is your remote controlling the volume in XBMC or your amplifier/tv?

It is a rosewill remote, has a USB infrared dongle.

Same thing... it is just changing the volume of the system.
