Linux [SOLVED] Eden on Linux on Asrock 330 incredibly slow
#1
Hello guys,

I have just moved from win7 to linux with Eden, and for some reason XBMC is INCREDIBLY slow, I mean, It can wait 20 seconds before an arrow keystroke will move to select the next menu item! So I cannot use it...

I installed the full Ubuntu 11.04 and then entered a bunch of code in Terminal to install XBMC (as per the wiki)
I have not installed any other drivers for the Asrock, everything seems to be working ok... in fact Spotify (beta) is a lot more responsive than it is on the PC.

Why could it be so slow, should I install Nvidia graphics drivers separately?

Thanks,
Mark.

Hello all,

Well, I did install the drivers, and what a massive difference, it is now faster than Windows.

(for the next newbie who has this issue) I tried a lot of things, its pretty hard to find the right answers/solutions, but eventually tried and found this - to be typed in to Terminal, one line at a time:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

boy, linux has been a major uphill battle, but xbmc and spotify are singing...

tx
Mark.

yes, it takes some effort to learn this stuff...especially graphical/display is an issue.
On the brigth side, now when you figured this out the next thing you want to install is going to be easy to google.
