If all you guys are running nox, go to your addons folder and delete the random items scripts. For some reason phill has decided to add a bunch of useless scripts that xbmc doesn't like.

Nox 2.0 is more stable, you could also roll back to that version.

I have some extra information on the subject now.

Today I started XBMC, and started a episode of Dexter when the situation we are discussing happened BUT I left the computer running figuring I had to fix some other stuff first and after like 5-10 minutes the computer unfroze. Meaning the episode started to play as it was supposed to do.

What information can I share/post that would help troubleshoot this issue? Seems to happen over NFS or Samba (cifs), I've iperf'd my network connection and get 984Mbs so I think I'm good there.

Hi,

finally I kicked my NVidia GT430 out of the machine .. especially to much power for video/music and tv viewing .. by then the system run Xubuntu 11.10 (sucked) with NVidia's own linux drivers (not nouveau) .. now it's an Ubuntu 12.04 Server and I'm using the built-in Intel HD graphics (Celeron G530) with xserver-xorg-video-intel drivers .. to cut a long story short - problem disappeared .. so I guess: it's a NVidia-related problem ..

So long

Switched from XBMCbuntu to http://openelec.tv/ latest beta and haven't had any issues for 2 weeks now *knock on wood*. Seems to be a better solution. Hope that helps someone else to be able to use XBMC how it was intended.

As to be read in the other thread its a problem with vdpau implementation of eden.
It apperently fixed in the development tree but not yet released as a stable version.

For me disableing vdpau solved the problem as i have a powerfull cpu in the xbmc machine. For atom users installing a nightly build coule solve the problem i guess.

The other thread above includes a linux xbmc developer so you might want to post detailed questions in there.

I just started using XBMC, and it freezes up every time I try to play a video. My OS is Vista and I select the top download format option, which is HD mp4. Am I doing something wrong?
