XBMCUBUNTU xbmc at boot
#1
I installed XBMCUBUNTU on my hard drive then I wanted to start xbmc at boot...

After many searches, I installed gnome-session by apt-get then launched gnome-session-properties and finaly added xbmc (/usr/bin/xbmc) when session starts.

The problem was that all shortcuts of system administration are not present in the menu, I don't know if it's possible to add this...

ummmmm....you have me confused lol

if you installed xbmcbuntu then xbmc starts up auto by default

it is set that it will remember your last state if shut down....so if you were in xbmc last and reboot it will reboot into xbmc...or if you were in xbmcbuntu last it will reboot into xbmcbuntu

if it is not launching xbmc auto on first boot then you have an issue

At first it boot correctly into xbmc, after I discovered how to get back to xbmcubuntu, xbmc does not boot directly. I think I shut down the machine several times from xbmc and it didn't boot into xbmc, I could remove my app start and try again if you want

in the desktop environment, choose logout and choose to login with xbmc (not xbmcbuntu) and it will fix your problem.

True in a vanilla xbmcbuntu. Unless you have a freak bug related to your hardware which are unlikely.

It remembers the last session used. For example, one could log into xbmcbuntu, run xbmc as an application and reboot from within xbmc. It will then reboot to xbmcbuntu as this was the last session logged into.

This is exactly what has happened to me. I installed xbmcbuntu. It booted into xbmc. Because I need to install some updates, I managed to get to the xbmcbuntu desktop. Due to overscan, I accidentally changed something in the top right corner. Now I cannot boot directly into xbmc. I have to start it as an app from the xbmcbuntu desktop. I cannot work out how to change the default session. The config files at /usr/share/xsessions for xbmcbuntu or xbmc do not appear significantly different (e.g. one having the exec line commented out #).

Please, how do I restore the default xbmc session?

Press F9 from the login screen to bring up the session selection box.

Thumbs Up
teedub, thank you so much for the tip. I spent hours this morning tweaking this or that config file, all to no effect. I thought I had done every variation on the search for xbmc, lxde, lubuntu for change session and default session, but I did not find your tip anywhere. All good now. Big Grin

consider turning off overscan on the TV. You'll get a much better picture for movies as well Wink

Unfortunately there is no overscan menu item for my tv. I have been unable to get nvidia-settings to run. I have used video calibration in xbmc to fix the issue within xbmc, but not xbmcbuntu.

Can you provide some general direction on how to turn off over scan on a Sony Bravia or how to tell if it is turned on in the first place?
