Hi all,

i'm kind a new to xbmc and want to set up my first media center with an old computer I have.

It's a p4 with an abit fatality AA8XE Intel Socket 775 motherboard. and fitted with GB of ram.
HD is not very important, because (when the set up is finished), all media will be streamed from a server.

the only thing I'm going to renew is my GPU, because I want one with a hdmi output.

Are there recommendations for a silent (and preferably cheap) graphic card?

it will probably host openelec, so a gpu that works great with linux would be nice.
If that's not possible, then I would go for a windows environment.

This is all to test xbmc and will be replaced later with a amd A6-3500 ( or a better one in the future).

If you are going to use Openelec. I wouldn't recommend anything other than Nvidia chipset Smile

HDHuh Meaning Harddrive or HD movie??

Which movies do you expect to play??

You can get a GT430 which has a fan but may reports of it being really quiet.
The only absolutely silent one I know of is a GT520 (asus) but its pretty big heatsink.

Take a look but either the GT430 or the GT520 will suit you well.
I asked that question earlier.

thx for the info,
that was my thought too, after a bit of research it seems hard to find good ati drivers.

With HD I mean Hard drive (my apologies for the confusion :p)

I want to play full hd movies, with different formats

As said above, if your using OpenELEC (like myself) then you need Nvidia cards.
So dont bother with ATI drivers Wink

Both of the GT430 and GT520 will play HD movies without a hitch.

thx SavellM, I will be looking for one of those cards.

I've read your topic, very interesting Smile

Do you guys think the rest of the setup is good enough to play HD media?

I would say ye, with a dedicated GPU.

I was running a 1.8ghz Atom cpu with a GPU and its fine, for massive Blu-Ray rips.
