Mvie switch to different resolution

Guys, is there a possibility to set a resolution for movie playback?

Reason:
I have a Philips flatscreen with max 1080p resolution.
However, under windows the recommended resolution is 1680x1050. This also looks better, more crisp and text is more readable.
Therefore i would like to use 1680x1050 for Xbmc itself and all sd or 720p material.
For movies i would like to use 1920x1080
