We have a copy of XBMCLive Eden installed on an Acer Aspire Revo 3700 sitting under our TV in the living room, and we are very happy with it. I've even got it outputting audio over HDMI (ask me if you're having trouble). Now my wife wants to listen to music in the kitchen. What's the best way to do that?
Requirements:
* no cables - wireless solutions very much preferred
* no need to support different music in each room - it's OK if the speakers all play the same thing
* It must be possible to have audio in one room, the other room or both (having to use a mute button is OK)
* independent volume control in the two rooms
* no need to configure or flip a switch or change a cable to get the audio from one place to the other
If I could find a way of getting XBMC to send audio out of both the HDMI _and_ the phono socket on the Revo, I could plug in one of any number of simple sets of "wireless speakers". But I can't find out how to do that. Is that possible?
The TV has an optical audio out, but I can't find any wireless speakers which plug into such a thing. They all only have phono inputs. Also, I might want to plug in a decent pair of speakers there for the lounge one day.
I might be able to do it over WiFi; what standards exist for that sort of remote streaming? What does XBMC support? I've read about UPnP - is that what I want?
