Problems with sound on HDMI connection
#1
Hi,

I've just bought an Acer Revo R3700 and installed xbmc 11.10.

I have successfully connected to my home network and I am playing music from another PC in the house. So far so good. Smile

The problem I'm having is that I can't hear the music through the TV, which is connected to the XBMC box by HDMI cable. NOTE: I've checked the cable, which is OK (i.e. it works when I use it to connect the Sky box to the TV). Sad

When I try and play a track on I get a message saying "Failed ti initialize Audio device. Check your audio settings") .... these are:

Audio Output - HDMI
Speaker Configuration - 2.0
Boost volume level on downmix - enabled
- Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver - enabled
- DTS capable received - enabled

Audio Output Device - HDA NVidia - hdmi - 3 (ALSA)
Passthrough output device - HDA NVidia - hdmi - 3 (ALSA)

The TV is a Samsung UE46D7000

I'm new to this linux malarky, so any assistance would be welcomed.

Cheers
Graham

Well, no need to respond now.

I installed ubuntu desktop 12.04 and everything is now functioning properly.

I may install xbmc on top of ubuntu, but not sure if that is really necessary.
