For some reason many characters are showing up as code in XBMC in precise, this didn't happen in lucid ...

For example, a single quote (or apostrophe) shows up as "
Code:
'
"

Is there some package I'm missing? I've tried setting different character sets in the Appearance -> International settings, but nothing changes.

Ampersands, apostrophes and non-english characters are all doing this.

These charcters show up fine everywhere else, terminal, file manager, etc.

Where in the XBMC interface is it doing this?

You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Add-on:YouTube]] = Add-on:YouTube, [[Adding videos to the library]] = Adding videos to the library, [[userdata]] = userdata, etc

Same here.
Ubuntu minimal 12.04, Eden from ppa.
It happens in the Movies section, oddly enough not in TV Shows.
It happens in newly created sources (scraped with the universal scraper) as well as upgraded (from Dharma) ones (scraped with either imdb- or themoviedb scraper).

Hope this narrows it down for you a bit...

I've started having the same issue too. I think it started when I upgraded to 12.04 last week. Only my newest scraped videos have this issue.

and is this the solution?

"--- or use Eden from the Team-XBMC repo."

is this repo version 12.04 compatible?

but the problem is dependent on the version of ubuntu or the scraper?

The problem is the version of the XBMC you use.
You installed XBMC from a repository we don't control and this is not the stable version of XBMC which we call 'Eden'.
