I have some spare remote buttons, and I may as well use them. So i was wondering if it's possible to map the 'Update Library' function to a single keypress...?

Modify your remote.xml or keyboard.xml. You can use any of these commands.

If you grab KeyMapEdit from http://xbmcmce.sourceforge.net/ this is an easy way to edit keymaps.
