Handbrake-copied media always has subtitles turned on

I ripped a DVD with Handbrake and added the English subtitles to it. I disabled the "burn-in" and "force on" options so there is no reason that I can think of why it should be showing subtitles by default. They display in a greenish text even when I try to override that setting. The subtitle track doesn't even appear as an option in the subtitles control dialog when it's playing the file.

When I load the file in VLC, it doesn't exhibit this behavior. I have both the latest Windows build of XBMC and VLC. Any ideas of what I am doing or a suggestion of how to do this differently?

Open the file in MediaInfo and export the result.
