im going to get this micro server HP a doing a deal till the end of the month £100 off so seems like a great deal

problem i have theough it looks like it only has one expansion slot which i will use of the GPU but i also need digital out spdif or poss toslink

how would i go about this or what would be the best solution?

take a look here

it has 2 expansion slots: PCIE x16 and PCIE x1

as you can see in the thread linked above i use a HD6450 gfx card which has also a hd soundcard onboard.

if you really need toslink instead of hdmi you can try to add a splitter like this.

thanks for the link not seen your thread before looks good mate, mine will only be for XBMC and on linux, i had just noticed that it has 2 pcie slots so am now looking to add a sound card

the Asus Xonar DG 5.1 which will give me an optical out, would have liked to have a coaxial out option as well but i guess ya cant have everything.

Asus Xonar DGX is a low profile PCIe card that has optical out. It also fits in the HP Microserver.

If you're using Ubuntu/XBMC you'll need to compile the very latest copy of ALSA (1.0.25 nightly)
